Content

Guidelines is a unique Bible reading resource that offers four months of in-depth study written by leading scholars. Contributors are drawn from around the world, as well as the UK, and represent a stimulating and thought-provoking breadth of Christian tradition.

Instead of the usual dated daily readings, Guidelines provides weekly units, broken into at least six sections, plus an introduction giving context for the passage and a final section of points for thought and prayer.

On any day you can read as many or as few sections as you wish, to fit in with work or home routine. As well as a copy of Guidelines, you will need a Bible. Each contributor also suggests books for further study.

Published every four months (in January, May and September) and edited by Katharine Dell and Jeremy Duff.

Contributors in this issue:

Alec Gilmore is a Baptist minister, author, lecturer and Senior Research Fellow at the International Baptist Theological Seminary, Prague. His most recent book is A Concise Dictionary of Bible Origins and Interpretation (T&T Clark/Continuum, 2006).

Jeremy Duff is Director of Lifelong Learning in Liverpool Diocese and Canon at Liverpool Cathedral, as well as being the New Testament Editor for Guidelines. His latest book, Meeting Jesus: Human Responses to a Yearning God, was published by SPCK in 2006.

Grace Emmerson was for many years involved in Old Testament teaching in the University of Birmingham and in the Open Theological College. One of her main interests is the teaching of Hebrew and the enthusiasm it generates for biblical study. She is the author of Nahum to Malachi in BRF's People's Bible Commentary series.

Hannah Lewis is a priest in the Church of England and currently works as Team Leader for work among Deaf people in Liverpool diocese. She has been Deaf since childhood, is fluent in BSL and has been involved in the Deaf church in a variety of capacities since 1997.

Katharine Dell is Senior Lecturer in the Faculty of Divinity at Cambridge University and Director of Studies in Theology at St Catharine's College. She is also the Old Testament Editor for Guidelines, and the author of PBC Job in BRF's People's Bible Commentary series.

Rob Merchant is Principal Lecturer in Spirituality and Health at Staffordshire University. He is ordained in the Church of England and supports two parishes in Cheltenham. He is also the author of Pioneering the Third Age: The Church in an Ageing Population (Paternoster, 2003).

Paula Gooder teaches Biblical studies, both Old and New Testament, at the Queen's Ecumenical Theological Foundation, Birmingham, as well as working freelance as a biblical studies writer and lecturer. She is the author of Hosea to Micah in BRF's People's Bible Commentary series.

David Spriggs is a Baptist Minister, working for Bible Society as Consultant for Bible and Church. He also provides oversight in his church in the absence of a ministry leader. He continues to be amazed at scripture's potency to shape our lives as we allow the Holy Spirit to work in us.
