Advent reading

Each year, BRF publishes an Advent book of daily readings from 1 December to 6 January.

As Christmas draws nearer, we all feel the need to be prepared - and these resources remind us that this preparation needs to focus on our relationship with God first.

The majority of these titles have questions for group use included - view the individual title descriptions to find out more.

The Prince of Peace in a World of Wars

The Prince of Peace in a World of Wars

Applying the message of God's love to a needy world David Kerrigan £8.99

The BRF Advent book for 2018. David Kerrigan sees the coming of Jesus at Christmas as central to the divine plan to bring peace to the world. Through daily reflection on biblical texts and mission stories, he locates God at the centre of our mission and encourages us to restore the peace, joy and hope that come from accompanying Jesus. The biblical title 'Prince of Peace' leaves us in no doubt that God's purpose in Jesus Christ is to bring peace - universal peace, both with God and with our neighbours. But have we really understood what this peace might look like, especially in a world of wars and suffering?

Comings and Goings

Comings and Goings

Retracing the Christmas story through place and time Gordon Giles £7.99

This book takes the reader on a journey with a difference through Advent and Christmas. The daily reflections work backwards from the traditional Advent theme of the second coming of Jesus, via his life, death and resurrection, to come at last to the incarnation and the events commemorated at Christmas itself. In the following days, the focus turns to Christ as the Word of God, present at the dawn of creation. Along the way, we 'visit' some of the actual Holy Land sites associated with Gospel events, casting fresh light on familiar stories.
